Dr. E.A. Johnson is the Director of the BGS. In addition to this position, he is a Professor at the University of Calgary and involved with research programs at the BGS. Dr. Johnson's research is directed at integrating natural disturbance into plant community organization and dynamics. His applied interests are in global climate change, biological conservation, and ecosystem and fire management. He is a member of the NSF Community Surface Dynamics Modeling System, NSERC Centres of Excellence in Sustainable Forest Management, NSERC GEOIDE, PAGSE (Royal Society of Canada), and Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Bulletin of the Ecological Society of America.”
