The Biogeosciences Institute also develops teaching resources for Environmental and Ecology Education through targeted project funding and grants. Current teaching resources include: a. ECOLOGY CONNECTIONS for Biology 20-30 www.ecologyconnections.ca Ecology Connections is a website resource dedicated to providing educators and public access to primary ecological research and education resources. The research and education connections are relevant to High School Biology teachers, educators from non-formal education organizations, and public interested in learning more about the science of Ecology. The website has been developed and reviewed by a collaborative team of ecologists and educators from the University of Calgary, University of Alberta, Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Catholic School District. Funding for this project was provided through an Alberta Science and Research Investments Program ‘Science Awareness and Promotion (SAP)’ grant to the University of Calgary Kananaskis Field Stations. b. SCHOOLYARD ECOSYSTEMS for Science 7 www.kfs.ucalgary.ca/schoolyard.php This mini website provides access to planning templates, lesson plans and resources that use the schoolyard ecosystem as the focal point for implementing the Alberta Program of Studies for Science 7 Unit A: Interactions & Ecosystems (Alberta Learning 2001). The planning templates and site were developed by a team of teachers, for teachers, through a two year professional development project developed by the University of Calgary Kananaskis Field Stations (KFS) and the Calgary Separate School District (CSSD). Funding for this project was provided by The Calgary Foundation through the Calgary Foundation Community Fund, Frances Galvin Fund, Vera L. (Jacques) Ireland Fund, and the Mannix Memorial fund. |
